CND Gets Evil This Season
By Cheryl Gushue
On September 7, 2018 CND created vengeful, vindictive talons for the fierce SS2019 runway show for The Blonds. In a first-ever collaboration with Disney Villians, The Blonds transformed their dangerous show girl glam looks into evil vixens like Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, Ursula, Snow White Evil Queen and the Queen of Hearts.
The show was theatrics meets fashion meets Disney with the audience clapping and yelling at each character that came down the runway. There was tons of luxurious glitz, glam and sparkle from head to toe for every model. The hair was done by Oribe in high brightly colored, waist length ponytails with heads donning crowns.
The nails by CND led by Jan Arnold were over the top daggers that took hours of detailed couture bejeweling to create each individual piece to represent the villains. The seductive stiletto tips were encrusted in Swarovski crystals, embellishments of gold spikes, royalty colored jewels, sea inspired talons with suction cups on the underside, stitched and sewn dalmation style daggers, holographic eel skin, shells, feathers and so much more! Each one was a tiny work of art.
The audience screamed as Phillipe Blond opened the show in a floor length 80lb shattered gold mirrored coat with a bedazzled red heart on the back and her crown a bit eschew.
Celebrities like Paris Hilton wore one black and one white thigh high boots and a white glitter asymmetrical dress as Cruella de Vil with her tiny dog in tow.
One model danced down the runway flinging her ponytail in a neck wrenching style followed by an end of the runway death drop. The crowd went wild!
YouTube personality Patrick Starr walked as Ursula with her claws popping out of her metallic webbed gloves escorted by her minions – twin models Jake and Joseph Dupont as green glittered Flotsam and Jetsam eels.
I have been watching The Blonds for years and was thrilled to be backstage to witness this memorable experience come to life. Having a birds eye view from behind the scenes you really get to see all the hours of work these creators dedicate to making the show happen. The best way for me to describe it…… an extraordinarily evil over-the-top theatrics event on glitter steroids.
