One of the most iconic names in beauty, celebrity hairstylist Oribe Canales has reportedly died at the age of 62. The hairstylist’s sister, Gracie Cuervo, stated that her brother died of cardiac arrest late Sunday night after falling ill in recent weeks. “He was in New York to see doctors and specialists regarding complications … it was before midnight that he passed. It was very sudden. It’s devastating”.
The Cuban-born hairdresser’s namesake line of products, Oribe Hair Care, was a beauty industry favorite. Canales was a backstage fixture at fashion shows and red carpets alike. His eponymous brand is the best-selling hair care line at Space NK and the much-loved Dry Texturizing Spray has been in the top 10 products sold since the brand first launched through the beauty retailer.
The celebrity hair stylist worked with major names like Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Lopez, Cher, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Meghan Markle and many more. Oribe regularly flew to Milan to work on Gianni Versace, Chanel and Calvin Klein shows. He created the iconic look for Marc Jacobs 1992 Perry Ellis collection.
The industry has lost a legend. Oribe will be truly missed.
